1982 Mill House Replica

Influenced by the oil embargo of the 1970’s and concern with
the planet I have been designing and building sustainable
homes for over 25 years. The mill house on the banks of the
Humber River was designed and built in 1983... After studying
all the information on solar heat available at the time and
taking courses including R2000 we built our first passive
solar home. See more below...
Cannington House Exterior

The insulation was above building code requirements, exterior walls utilized horizontal and vertical insulation to avoid thermal bridging, (heat conduction through framing members). With 85% of the windows on the south, and other features such as vapour barrier and insulation under the basement floor this home was heated by the sun and a woodstove, with a large concrete and brick surround. (thermal mass)
